Meditation

"Half an hour's meditation each day is essential, except when you are busy. Then a full hour is needed." -St. Francis de Sales

"Prayer is talking to God. Meditation is listening to God." -Original source unknown

Every day, thousands of thoughts race through our minds. Meditation is the only way to quiet the mind and create space in order to learn to listen to God/Divine Spirit. Oasis teachers are available to help you begin a meditation practice. We also encourage you to attend Group Meditation, held every Sunday evening. We gather around the altar in the Sanctuary at St. Peter's.

Sunday evenings, 5:00-6:00PM

First Sunday of the Month: Taize

Taize is a Christian based service that was created by a contemplative religious community in Taize, France. It includes scripture, chant, prayer, and a period of silent meditation. A newcomer to meditation will enjoy the contemplative nature of Taize. If you are a singer or musician and would like to learn the chants, come at 4:00PM.

All other Sundays: Group Meditation

Our group meditation begins with an invocation to God/Divine Spirit. We then sit in meditation for 15-20 minutes. At the sound of the gong, we are invited (optional) to move into a walking meditation for 10-12 minutes. We then return for a second silent meditation of 10-15 minutes, followed by a short time of prayer. At the end of meditation, participants are invited to share questions or insights. Newcomers to meditation, please come at 4:45PM to get settled.
